Cataract

Cataracts are opacification of the lens and lead to diminishing of near/distance vision. The only treatment that can cure cataracts is the surgical procedure. Cataract is operated if: visual acuity (the sharpness with which objects are perceived, writing) has decreased (with or without glasses); the patient's view is no longer satisfactory in order to carry out his usual daily activities; is at a very advanced stage and may lead to other ocular problems (eg secondary glaucoma, severe intraocular inflammation); prevents the monitoring and treatment of various retinal disorders (eg diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration). Macular degeneration related to age

Keratoconus

Keratoconus is a non-inflammatory degenerative disorder of the cornea, characterized by its progressive thinning and conical, paracentral or deformation. This generates a myopic astigmatism, initially measurable by astigmometry, then irregular and immoral. Collagen is the essential element of the extracellular matrix of the cornea and ensures its correct biomechanics. The keratoconus is characterized by progressive deformation of the cornea by "weakening" collagen resistance. The affection is evolutionary and in the advanced stages all corneal layers are interested.

Cross-linking corneal is a surgical procedure, and after some people parasurgical, mini-invasive, conservative, that combines the effect of photosensitiser of Riboflavin (Vit. B2), the photochemical effects of ultraviolet (UV), applied to the cornea, the deformed cone in keratoconus or corneal ectasis of other aetiologies. It generates a biochemical reaction, enzymatic polymerisation of corneal stromal collagen, characterized by the formation of covalent bonds capable of corneal tissue to increase resistance to deformation and thinning conical, at least 70%.

There are several corneal cross-linking techniques (epi-off, epi-on, iontophoresis). The most modern of these is the iontophoresis technique, which means a shorter working time (about 15 min.) And lower risks of postoperative complications. Our specialists applied this technique for the first time in Romania in January 2013, and since then the results have been very good.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a progressive chronic disease of the optic nerve where current therapeutic solutions are directed to a single objective: reducing intraocular pressure. This can be done medically, with laser or surgical (filtering or non-filtering, invasive or mini-invasive).

In the Ophthalmology Center Provides glaucoma laser surgery is gaining new valencies. Transscleral Ciclofotocoagulation diode laser is aimed at the selective destruction (to vary continuous emission) and reactivation of metabolic (for micropulses version) to specific areas of the ciliary body, having the effect of reducing the amount of aqueous humor (fluid) secreted intraocular / or increasing drainage of this fluid by the uveo-scleral pathway. Transscleral Ciclofotocoagulation diode laser indications are represented in continuous emission of refractory glaucoma cases, poorly responsive to other treatments, reduced visual acuity or preserved, high levels of intraocular pressure and / or ocular pain intensity variable. Indications of the transscleral ciclofotocoagulation laser diode emission micropulsated are the most cases of open-angle glaucoma that want better control of intraocular pressure and / or reducing the number of drugs used.

The purpose of diode laser treatment on the ciliary body is to control intraocular pressure and / or ameliorate eye discomfort (pain, photophobia, lacrimation). Our specialists, pioneers of this technique in Romania, have extensive experience and appreciable results.

Retinal arterial occlusion

Retinal arterial ram occlusion can be determined by fibrin-plaque emboli, cholesterol plaques or calcified emboli, which typically is fixed to the retinal arteriolum bifurcation or vascular narrowing areas. Blockage of blood flow through the artery induces partial or complete retinal ischaemia with a sudden decrease in visual acuity or alteration of the visual field. YAG laser transluminal embolization is a therapeutic solution for which occlusive retinal vascular pathology can be chosen and our Center specialists published the first results related to this technique in Europe in 2007-2008

Retrohialoid bleeding

Retrohialloid bleeding is a pre-retentive blood accumulation in areas well delimited by posterior hyaloid, resulting in a crude decrease in visual acuity. Blood persistence in the macula has toxic effects on retinal photoreceptors, altering the quality of vision. YAG retrohialoid Hialiodotomy is a technique that our specialists have been successfully applying in Romania for over 10 years, having the quality of pioneers.
